Founded in 1949, HAM-TMC Library is a non-profit organization that serves the Texas Medical Center and members of the Harris County Medical Society. The scope of the Library's collection is clinical medicine and medical research. As the principal library for the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical complex, the HAM-TMC Library provides access to more than 2,200 print periodicals, about two-thirds of the total indexed in PubMed, the National Library of Medicine's 11-million entry citation database.
In addition, the Library provides access to more than 4,000 electronic journals, quadruple the number it offered just three years ago (1999.) Total print collections include more than 300,000 volumes, including approximately 100,000 books. The Library's history of medicine collection is one of the largest and most significant in the United States. The Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service of the HAM-TMC Library houses consumer health materials in several languages, including Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese.
